Event Location: Fairview Cemetery, 6400 Hawes Rd, Altamont, NY
Event Details: In November, We Remember — Prayer for the Faithful Departed
The month of November is dedicated to prayer for the souls of the faithful departed. Visiting a cemetery and praying for the dead is a powerful act of mercy and hope, and the Church offers a special indulgence for those who do so. Come and pray with us as we remember those who have gone before us marked with the sign of faith.

Fr. Matt and Fr. Lucius will be leading prayer at each of these times and places. Maybe you know someone who is buried in these cemeteries, and maybe not. You are invited to join in prayer at these local cemeteries and ask the Lord to welcome all the faithful departed into the light of eternal life.
Indulgenced Prayers for the Faithful Departed
During November, the Church offers indulgences for the souls in Purgatory. A plenary indulgence removes all temporal punishment due to sin; a partial indulgence removes part. An indulgence is the Church’s way of sharing in the mercy of Christ, the remission of the temporal effects of sin for those who are already forgiven. These acts are a powerful expression of love and mercy toward our deceased brothers and sisters. To share in these graces, the Church invites us to fulfill the following conditions. During November 1–8, a plenary indulgence is granted to the faithful who visit a cemetery and pray for the dead (a partial indulgence may be gained on other days of the month).
Plenary Indulgence: November 1–8: Devoutly visit a cemetery and pray for the dead. All Souls’ Day: Visit a church or oratory and recite an Our Father and the Creed.
Partial Indulgence: Visit a cemetery and pray for the dead. Recite Eternal Rest or Lauds or Vespers from the Office of the Dead.
To receive a plenary indulgence, the faithful must: Be in a state of grace and free from attachment to sin. Receive Confession and Holy Communion. Pray for the intentions of the Holy Father (an Our Father and Hail Mary suffice). Confession, Communion, and prayer for the Pope may be completed within about 20 days before or after the indulgenced act.
